White Bread #1

1. Prove yeast:

  • 50mL water at 110 degrees f
  • 8g yeast
  • 12g sugar

2. Wait 10 mins, combine with:

  • 400g bread flour
  • 3g salt
  • 250mL canned coconut milk
  • 50mL vegetable oil + margarine for greasing

3. Bring it together into a dough and wait an hr

Cover with a damp cloth and leave for an hour

4. Knead it a bit and wait another hour

Cover with a damp cloth again and leave for an hour

5. Bake at 350 for 20-25 mins

Put it in a greased loaf pan. Optionally coat the top with margarine / honey / coconut milk / shredded coconut


  • It's bread. Yum.

  • You might want to add a bit more salt. 3g is a good balance for me, but it does taste a little yeast-y when you reduce salt.

  • If your coconut milk is THICC, you might want to 1/2 and 1/2 the coconut milk with water. I've used the cheap watery coconut milk and the good thick stuff and they both work well, but your dough might be a bit tight with the latter. Adjust if needed
